The Project in Brief
Inspired by the many folk references we had drawn upon for our first two wallpapers Kit Kemp invited me to paint the uniquely thatched shepherd’s hut nestled at the end of her garden.
Supervised by Rupert the attentive King Charles Spaniel I spent a glorious week immersed in painting vases of flowers, horses, unicorns and homesteads set in wooded landscapes and all capped with a blue, starry sky. The scheme was part structured to flow neatly around the small space and part improvised for a relaxed, naïve feel.
Kit then furnished the hut in her inimitable style with clashing patterns and cosy textures in time for a family wedding. One feels the interior will remain in flux as different uses for the space are tried out, is it an office? Could it be a writing room? A retreat for contemplation?
However the hut is used it cannot help but be both intimate and fun.
