This huge mural wallpaper was designed to capture the beauty of the surrounding landscape of this luxury hotel in the Peak District.
Isabella Worsley designed the complete refurbishment of this 15 bedroom hotel for new hotel group, Wildhive. Her focus was on locality as she worked with British workshops and artists to create interiors that, in her words “give an unexpected sense of quirk and charm”. With this look and feel in mind she came to me to develop a repeating, scenic wallpaper for the hotel’s dining room.
The Brief
To create an imaginary view of rolling hills relating to the surrounding Peak District landscape. To include a distant view of Callow Hall, its nearby lake and stepping stones. A fabulous feature of the hotel is its luxury treehouses so, of course, one of these had to be included in our landscape.
The autumnal palette was to feel quite gentle and romantic, muted and whimsical, rather than anything too strong; yellows, soft cognac oranges and sage greens.
As a nod to the Wildhive brand there is a scattering of beehives in the foreground whilst the wildflower meadows that surround the hotel are depicted in the fore and middle ground.
The distant peaks merge into soft light helping to loosen the density of the design.
